Billesley Lane Allotments is located to the north-west of Moseley Golf Course with its main gate on the corner of Billesley Lane and Southlands Road.
Billesley Lane Allotments currently has 24 tenants who come from a wide variety of backgrounds, with a high proportion of women gardeners, and children are often seen helping on the allotments.
In 2005, the allotments were downsized with most tenants having to start a new plot and have done a great job getting it into shape. Much fruit, vegetables and flowers are grown in a well-loved site that enjoys being part of a community of gardeners.
There have been allotments on this site since at least the early 1920s when council records began, but it is quite possible that they were here during World War I when the Defence of the Realm Act allowed land to be cultivated to help the war effort, an early version of World War II’s Dig for Victory.
